Ivan is a supporting character in 'Mermaid Tales'.
Biography[]
Before the series, Ivan was involved in a romantic relationship with Lucinda- and was the last to see her before she went missing. According to another sorcerer who knew her, after they appeared in a night on the town, they were gone- that is, until Ivan came running into town shouting that a merman had taken Lucinda. He's believed to have drowned Lucinda that night, though it isn't true, and spends his time trying to tell and convince people of his story.
In "Curse of Mermaids", he appears at the bar when he hears Aaron mention Titanus, telling him it's a sure sign of mermaids being here, and that the shark hasn't been seen in ages. He chases Aaron when he leaves, but becomes meek when the mercenary holds his sword to his throat. He rambles on about Titanus 'keeping the mermaids in their kingdom', (which is true,) until Aaron shoves him away and leaves. He shouts after him, telling him the woman he saw underwater was definitely a mermaid.
In "Don't Tell Him!", he again appears to interrupt two tavern patrons' conversation about hypothetical mermaids. He insists they're real, and that one took Lucinda, and he fought to save her. They dismiss him, and the bartender demands he leave- so he does, and he runs down to the docks, planning to avenge Lucinda.. somehow.
He stands at the dock casting out nets, becoming irritated when he doesn't catch anything. It only gets worse when he spots two people spying on and talking about him, and his frustration mounts until he decides he won't get anything waiting around here, and takes a boat out into the ocean.
While casting nets in the ocean, he catches Zane mid-walk. who recognizes him as the human who 'chased Tavari back into the ocean'. He panics upon hearing a talking crab, and throws him back into the water- a decision he immediately regrets. He desperately calls for Zane to come back, to no avail.
At some point while casting nets, he finds Katelyn and Teony floating on the surface, unconscious after being transformed into humans. He immediately concludes that they're mermaids, (even recognizing Katelyn as royalty,) covering their bodies with his shirt and taking them back to shore to prove to everyone once and for all that he isn't crazy.
On the shore however, he's stopped by Aphmau and Aaron- the latter of which stalls for time and tries to convince him that the two girls aren't mermaids because they have normal legs, even though he knows the truth now. Ivan stays persistent, but the guard arrives before he can do anything, and he's arrested on the spot.
Appearance[]
Ivan has dark brown hair, and red eyes. He wears a black vest over a white undershirt, with a red belt. He also wears black pants and brown boots.
In "Mermaids ARE REAL!", he takes off his vest and shirt to cover up Katelyn and Teony.
Personality[]
Little is known about his true personality, as he's never seen before Lucinda's 'death'.
However, during the series he's very upfront and outspoken about his beliefs and story. He's proactive, heading straight to his boat on the docks to do something, and he seems to be easily frustrated by other people mocking and belittling him, as they frequently do. Losing Lucinda and having no one believe him seems to have been the actual cause of him being.. slightly unhinged, rather than what everyone believes about him.
